Hutchinson Island and the Treasure Coast
There are really two Hutchinson Islands, North and South, divided by an inlet. Both are located in the heart of Florida's Treasure Coast, which got its name from the Spanish treasure fleet that was lost off the coast in a 1715 hurricane. Today, it's a beautiful, uncrowded seacoast where pieces of this Spanish treasure are still being found, sometimes just a few hundred yards offshore. The Treasure Coast consists of Indian River County on the north, St. Lucie County in the middle, and Martin County on the south. Some people would say it extends into Palm Beach County, which is more commonly associated with the Gold Coast moniker due to the wealth of many of its citizens. Regardless of the exact boundaries of the Treasure Coast, it's a wonderful place to live and wark.
